Kent Thiry is Chairman and CEO of Denver-based DaVita®, a Fortune 500® kidney care company committed to improving the quality of life for those diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
Mr. Thiry joined DaVita (then called Total Renal Care) in October 1999. In the eleven years since he became CEO, a once-ailing health care company was transformed into a health care leader, currently providing care to approximately 131,000 patients across the nation and employing 38,000 teammates.
DaVita’s dedication to teammate engagement and empowerment has resulted in clinical outcomes that are the best or among the best among kidney care providers. The company’s leadership development philosophy is widely recognized as a model for success and taught at several prestigious business schools including Harvard and Stanford.
Mr. Thiry began his career at Bain & Company, eventually becoming chairman and CEO of Vivra, which was later acquired by Gambro. Mr. Thiry earned his BA in Political Science, with Distinction and Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University. He earned his MBA, with Honors, from Harvard Business School, where he was also elected to the Century Club.
